Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC)
8 session Compassion-Based Living Course (CBLC) – ONLINE
In response to the current Covid 19/Corona virus situation, we are hosting the 8 session Compassion-Based Living Course (CBLC) course online.
The course makes it possible for you to experience compassion and to develop your mindfulness awareness and practice – which can be very beneficial, particularly in these challenging times.
To maximise the time and space you have to undertake regular compassion-based mindfulness practices and also to embed your mindfulness in daily living, we meet online every second week, on Friday evenings – first two sessions; then Thursday evenings from 19:00-21:00.
We plan that the course will begin online on Friday 03 December 2021 at 19:00
The course is primarily experiential. The online sessions include
– a tutor-led discussion on a particular theme from the course
– discussion and sharing in small groups and pairs
– compassion-based mindfulness practices
– reflective activities
– follow up ‘homework’ – regular compassion-based mindfulness practices and daily life exercises.
The course begins with building self-compassion into basic mindfulness practice. Through compassionate imagery and mindful self-compassion, we cultivate positive emotions as a way of building up an inner resource, from which we can approach the difficulties that are part and parcel of being alive.
We then approach the self-critic: that persistent inner voice that is harsh and condemning, and always finding fault in what we do. What would it be like to cultivate an inner voice that is kind and supportive, and to live life from this place, rather than from a place of destructive self-criticism?
In the course of the journey, we move from self-compassion towards compassion for others, exploring practices which help us find balance and perspective beyond our narrow preferences, generating love and friendliness to our inner and outer worlds, responding appropriately to pain and suffering while also appreciating the good things in our lives, integrating compassion into all that we do.
The course is taught in English and is led by David McMurtry.
Anyone who has completed the 8-week Mindfulness-Based Living Course (MBLC) or equivalent; or ‘Being Present’ (Level 1 Mindfulness Course) is able to register for the CBLC.
If you are interested in CBLC and you have completed another course that includes training in meditation or mindfulness, please contact us.
